Hope Haven Neighborhood

Location: Loudon County, Tennessee
Client: Loudon Habitat for Humanity
Completion: ongoing

In the spring of 2007, Elizabeth Eason Architecture created the masterplan and design guidelines for Habitat for Humanity Hope Haven neighborhood in Loudon County, Tennessee. The masterplan sought to break from typical suburban development by returning to a more traditional, higher density neighborhood layout. To create a sense of community in this new neighborhood, the design included spacious front porches, tree-lined streets with sidewalks, alleys for car access, and common park spaces.

The masterplan also followed the guidelines of Low Impact Development (LID), which is an approach to land development that uses natural and manmade features to manage stormwater on site. Features incorporated into this design included preserved steep slopes, curb-less streets with grass swales, permeable gravel alleys, and disconnected impervious areas.

Loudon County Habitat is currently continuing the phased development of the Hope Haven neighborhood.
