2. Tennessee Farmhouse With Room for Guests
In designing a house to fit with their post-retirement plans in eastern Tennessee, this Georgia couple wanted a first-floor living plan for aging in place and rooms for overnight guests on the second level.
The house design, by Elizabeth Eason Architecture, is a pleasing combination inspired by the couple’s love of houses in Norway and rural Tennessee farmsteads. Norwegian architecture influenced the steep roof gables, while the board-and-batten siding and wraparound porch were inspired by local traditions. The combination of white siding and black window trim is an exterior design trend readers saved to many ideabooks in 2018.
